3MV Energy announces demand repayment by its Subordinated Lender, Head Office Staff Reductions and Farm-Out Agreement

/THIS NEWS RELEASE IS NOT FOR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES OR TO ANY UNITED STATES NEWS SERVICES./

CALGARY, Sept. 23, 2012 /CNW/ - 3MV Energy Corp. ("3MV" or the "Company") (TSXV: TMV) announces that the Company's lender under its secured subordinated credit facility has made a demand on the Company for repayment of all indebtedness under such facility, which is currently in the amount of $2 MM plus any unpaid accrued interest, by October 19, 2012. The demand is due to the Company being in breach of certain covenants under the facilities as a result of the Company's current working capital deficiency.

Management of 3MV is working with its lenders to come up with a plan to repay the indebtedness under the facilities.

3MV has reduced head office staff and corresponding G&A expenses for anticipated savings of approximately $50 thousand per month.

3MV also announces it has entered into a farm-out agreement with 1696704 Alberta Ltd. ("FarmCo") to drill two wells on 3MV's Fiske property, with FarmCo funding 100% of costs to completion to earn 75% interest subject to existing royalties.? FarmCo is a single purpose corporation formed by 3MV to raise $2 MM to finance the lease preserving wells on the Fiske property.? Upon 3MV completing a further $3.75 MM financing 3MV has the right to exchange 3MV shares and warrants for FarmCo shares and warrants.

Outlook

3MV intends to focus its drilling and production efforts on its highly productive Fiske light oil discovery for the remainder of 2012 and into 2013. With over 34 net sections of land subject to a farm out agreement (of which the Corporation has earned and participated in 2.65 net sections) and another section (crown lease) owned by 3MV Energy, and a recent 19.9 km? 3D seismic program, 3MV Energy has identified and licensed 17 future drilling locations, eight of which the Corporation considers to be infill locations. The Corporation's recent success in the play, with three wells producing over 100 boe/d during the first 30 days of production, has led to significant reserves additions in the area and 3MV Energy intends to build off that momentum as quickly as is practicable with additional capital raised in the upcoming periods.

Oil and Gas Disclosure

For the purpose of calculating unit costs, natural gas volumes have been converted to a barrel of oil equivalent ("BOE") using six thousand cubic feet equal to one barrel unless otherwise stated. A BOE conversion ratio of 6:1 is based upon an energy equivalency conversion method primarily applicable at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead. BOEs may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation.

11-year-old wins $20,000 at AT&T hackathon for creating app that discourages texting while driving

AT&T's already working on an app to keep folks from texting while driving, but earlier this month it gave folks at a Los Angeles hackathon the chance to develop their own solution. David Grau, a creative director and designer at an interactive agency, and 11-year-old Victoria Walker were awarded $20,000 by Big Blue to bring their smartphone application to the public. Dubbed Rode Dog, the prize-winning software allows friends and family to organize themselves into "packs" and monitor their text messaging habits. Watchful users can spot when a fellow group member is texting and initiate a barking noise on the offender's phone. Much like squawking seat belt systems, the app is designed to remind drivers of their wrongdoing and doesn't stop the ruckus until they acknowledge it. If you'd rather have a chicken or other animal grab your attention, the duo crafted an in-app shop that offers other wildlife sound sound effects. Rode Dog isn't expected to hit iOS, Android and Windows Phone until its fully polished, but you can sign up to receive word of its launch at the second source link below.

College football scores Week 4: Live scoreboard, stats and results

Welcome to Week 4 of the 2012 college football season, where we hope the action is far more exciting than Thursday's 7-6 rip-snorter between Boise State and BYU, and won by the Broncos.

Follow all of today's action on our Division I live scoreboard, which includes live stats and play-by-play.

Among the noon kickoffs worth following (all times ET):

? No. 16 Ohio State vs. UAB (live box score)

? No. 8 West Virginia vs. Maryland (live box score)

? No. 17 TCU vs. Virginia (live box score)

? Wisconsin vs. UTEP (live box score)

1. No. 4 Florida State vs. No. 10 Clemson, 8 p.m. It's the Seminoles' defense versus the Tigers' high-powered offense. Florida State lost this one a year ago, and we already saw what it did to Wake Forest, a team that beat the 'Noles last year as well. Will a similar fate await Clemson?

2. No. 15 Kansas State at No. 6 Oklahoma, 7:50 p.m. Take the time to read Sporting News' in-depth profile of Wildcats quarterback Collin Klein. It is truly a bloody good story, and you will be fired up to watch this one.

3. No. 18 Michigan at No. 11 Notre Dame 7:30 p.m. Win here, and the Fighting Irish are 4-0 since, oh, the birth of Touchdown Jesus. We kid because we care. It's been since 2002, when Ty Willingham and the Irish won their first eight before falling to Boston College and taking the steam out of a truly special season. Can Denard Robinson derail the Irish train again?

4. No. 22 Arizona at No. 3 Oregon, 10:30 p.m. We don't know yet how Oregon redshirt freshman QB Marcus Mariota will handle Pac-12 competition; all the Ducks have done to this point is load up on cupcakes. And conversely, we don't know how the Wildcats will handle going into Oregon with their 3-0 start.

Endeavour readies for road trip to L.A. museum

LOS ANGELES ??Space shuttle Endeavour, now a permanent resident of the state of California, has traded its winged chariot for a set of custom wheels.

Early on Saturday (Sept. 22), the shuttle was hoisted by cranes off the modified Boeing 747 jumbo jet that flew it to a landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) the day before. Endeavour's touchdown, which was preceded by a flyover tour of the state to the delight of millions of spectators, was the final airborne leg of the orbiter's delivery to the California Science Center (CSC) for display.

Next up: a road trip.

To prepare Endeavour for its 12-mile (19-kilometer) parade through the city streets of Inglewood and Los Angeles next month, NASA's team first had to remove the orbiter from the back of the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) and then load it onto a modified overland transporter.

Using a very similar, two-crane contraption to what was deployed earlier this year to hoist sister ship Discovery and the prototype Enterprise from the same jetliner after their ferry flights to Washington, D.C., and New York City, the 155,000-pound (70,000-kilogram) Endeavour was carefully raised so that the aircraft could back away and the transporter could drive in underneath. The shuttle was then lowered on to the wheeled platform.

The cranes, as well as a network of cables that served as wind restraints, were anchored to the airport's apron by 200 attach points earlier drilled into the tarmac. The decision to complete the de-mate process overnight was made to avoid the deafening noise from arriving and departing airplanes, which could interfere with the critical communications between the 30 people working the operation. [Gallery: Endeavour Demated from Carrier Aircraft]

The air- and- spacecraft now separated, Endeavour will move into a United Airlines hangar to be further prepared for its transport and display. The SCA meanwhile is scheduled to make its final flight on Monday (Sept. 24) to NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., where it will be grounded and become a parts donor for NASA's SOFIA airborne astronomical observatory.

Inside the hangar, technicians will remove from Endeavour's aft the aerodynamic tail cone that was added for its ferry flight from Florida, reposition the shuttle's replica main engines from their tucked-for-flight orientation and install nozzles on the orbiter's maneuvering system pods. They'll also enter Endeavour's crew cabin to configure it for the science center's curators and retrieve from inside thousands of embroidered patches that were flown on Endeavour for the ferry flight at the center's request.

On Oct. 12, Endeavour, riding the same transporter that was previously used to move its sister ships between their Palmdale, Calif. assembly plant to Dryden for ferrying to the KennedySpace Center in Florida, will emerge from its temporary airport hangar home and roll out onto the streets of Inglewood. The procession will pick up in earnest the next day, when the space shuttle is moved in full public view from Inglewood City Hall to the California Science Center at Exposition Park, where it's expected to arrive by dusk.

Along the route, Endeavour's delivery will be celebrated by a musical dance and aerial performance choreographed by famed actress Debbie Allen. Before arriving at the CSC, the towing duties for the space shuttle will be turned over to a Toyota Tundra pickup truck as part of a partnership and sponsorship to raise upwards of $500,000 for Endeavour's permanent display.

At the CSC, the shuttle will be exhibited atop the transporter inside the temporary Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Display Pavilion, a large hangar that was recently built beside the center's main building. Ultimately, the CSC plans to position Endeavour on a recreation of its launch pad, complete with twin booster and external fuel tank, inside its planned Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center to be ready to begin inspiring visitors by 2017.

Bosnia Marks Peace Day With Doves and Vows :: Balkan Insight

More than a 100 children, teenagers, activists and, representatives from a wide range of civil society organizations gathered in front of Sarajevo's cathedral to symbolically mark International Peace Day by reading a ?Pledge of Peace? and releasing dozens of white doves.

The Pledge of Peace was carried to Sarajevo by a team of? cyclists, who had cycled from the old medieval Bosnian town of Bobovac. ?The pledge promises that youth will do all they can to fight for peace.

?We took part in this 50 kilometre ride to support this event. We want to remember how in the old days messengers brought tokens and messages of peace. This is our message and pledge. Healthy youth for a healthy future,? said Velimir Gavran, who led the team of cyclists.

The group of NGOs who organized the event are all part of the Network for Building Peace, which is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

David Barth, the USAID Mission Director for Bosnia and Herzegovina, said at the event that the members of the network are the Bosnian ?champions of peace?.

?We must never forget the past, but we must vow not to let this innocent youth live through the same things others had to live through,? said Barth.

Activists from some of the participating organizations held boards with anti-war messages, asking for peace in troubled regions of the world, such as Syria and Afghanistan.

Sumka Bucan, a member of the Care International NGO, said that the event was especially significant in Sarajevo given the country?s recent war past

?We are very pleased that more than a 100 NGOs have taken part in this event, the aim of which is to support peace and life in Bosnia. It is important that Bosnian citizens of different ethnicities, see that there are more things that bring us together then those that divide us,? said Bucan.

International Peace Day was marked in 12 cities across Bosnia and Hercegovina.

On Sept. 28 at 9 p.m., PBS will celebrate The Cliburn: 50 Years of Gold, a 60-minute documentary tribute to the competition founded by pianist Van Cliburn in 1962. The film looks at a half century of winners as well as the famous musician who rocketed to worldwide fame in 1958 when he won the first International Tchaikovsky Piano competition in Moscow. Viewers can also watch the entire film online at Cliburn.org or pbs.org beginning Sept. 29.

Superheroes in your living room

Avengers, assemble. The Avengers supergroup, which includes Iron Man and Captain America, comes to DVD and Blu-ray Sept. 25 with its story of the fighting force battling the villainous Loki. Director-screenwriter Joss Whedon makes excellent use of 3-D, and, despite the many special effects and kabooms, he doesn't turn the movie into a head-rattling endurance test.

First impressions

Renoir, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, C?zanne, Cassatt, and more ? masters of the art world who changed it forever ? are all profiled in a DVD making its US debut Sept. 18. Understanding Art: Impressionism is a four-part series examining the men and women who revolutionized the art world with their new way of seeing light and line. The three-volume set from Athena also includes bonus features on Van Gogh and Manet.

Getting kids through school

Drop Out Nation, airing Sept. 25 on PBS's "Frontline," is a trenchant story of four high school students on the verge of dropping out, including a homeless girl who wants to be an obstetrician but is chronically absent and a boy who works to support his family while his mother faces the threat of deportation. The educators who do all they can to help them succeed ? including one who sacrifices family time and opens up her own home ? make you wonder if you'd do as much in their shoes.

Let your phone whistle for a taxi

Uber wants to carry taxi services into the smart-phone era. The cab company, which launched in 13 American cities, revolves around its iPhone and Android apps. Request a car through the Uber app, and the software will identify the closest available taxi. Your phone also provides a digital map so you can watch the driver approach your location. Once you reach your destination, Uber bills your credit card ? no cash required.

Baritone from the wild woods

Picture Bigfoot emerging from the forest with an acoustic guitar strapped on. Now imagine what he would sound like, with vocal tones that cut as deep as a redwood's roots. That's burly, bearded singer/songwriter Sean Rowe in a nutshell (though he's much better looking). His major label debut album, The Salesman and the Shark, with its riveting subsonic vocals and man-in-the-wild tales will resonate inside you, long after the last chord rings out. He's a unique artist by any measure. You can check him out live at http://bit.ly/SeanRowe.

In a now familiar global ritual, Apple fans jammed shops across the globe to pick up the tech juggernaut's latest iPhone.

Eager buyers formed long lines Friday at Apple Inc. stores in Asia, Europe and North America to be the first to get their hands on the latest version of the smartphone.

In New York, several hundred people lined up outside Apple's 5th Avenue store. Jimmy Peralta, a 30-year-old business management student, waited three hours before getting the chance to buy his new gadget. Was it worth the wait?

"Definitely," he said, noting that the new phone's larger screen and lighter weight compelled him to upgrade from the iPhone 4. "A little treat for me on a Friday morning, why not. Why not be part of something fantastic? It's just such a smart phone it does all the thinking for you, you can't get any easier than that."

Catheryne Caveed, 23, was in line at a Verizon store in the Queens borough of New York. An iPhone 4 user, she had no regrets about skipping last year's model, the iPhone 4S. The only real upgrade in the 4S, she said, was Siri, the voice-controlled "personal assistant."

"The 4S looked the same as the 4," Caveed said. With the 5, "everything is different ? even the headphones."

Apple's stock was up less than one percent, or $5.61, to $704.23 in late morning trading.

Earlier, in London, some shoppers had camped out for a week in a queue that snaked around the block. In Hong Kong, the first customers were greeted by staff cheering, clapping, chanting "iPhone 5! iPhone 5!" and high-fiving them as they were escorted one-by-one through the front door.

The smartphone will be on sale in the U.S. and Canada hours after its launch in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Britain, France and Germany. It will launch in 22 more countries a week later. The iPhone 5 is thinner, lighter, has a taller screen, faster processor, updated software and can work on faster "fourth generation" mobile networks.

The handset has become a hot seller despite a new map app that early users have deemed inferior to Google Maps, the software it replaces. Apple received 2 million orders in the first 24 hours of announcing its release date, more than twice the number for the iPhone 4S in the same period when that phone launched a year ago.

In a sign of the intense demand, police in Osaka, Japan, were investigating the theft of nearly 200 iPhones 5s, including 116 from one shop alone, Kyodo News reported. In London, police sought help finding a man wanted in connection with the theft of 252 iPhone 5s from a shop in Wimbledon early Friday morning.

Analysts have estimated Apple will ship as many as 10 million of the new iPhones by the end of September.

Some fans went to extremes to be among the first buyers by arriving at Apple's flagship stores day ahead of the release.

In downtown Sydney, Todd Foot, 24, showed up three days early to nab the coveted first spot. He spent about 18 hours a day in a folding chair, catching a few hours' sleep each night in a tent on the sidewalk.

Foot's dedication was largely a marketing stunt, however. He writes product reviews for a technology website that will give away the phone after Foot reviews it.

"I just want to get the phone so I can feel it, compare it and put it on our website," he said while slumped in his chair.

In Paris, the phone launch was accompanied by a workers' protest ? a couple dozen former and current Apple employees demonstrated peacefully to demand better work benefits. Some decried what they called Apple's transformation from an offbeat company into a multinational powerhouse.

But the protesters ? urged by a small labor union to demonstrate at Apple stores around France ? were far outnumbered by lines of would-be buyers on the sidewalk outside the store near the city's gilded opera house.

Not everyone lining up at the various Apple stores was an enthusiast, though. In Hong Kong, university student Kevin Wong, waiting to buy a black 16 gigabyte model for 5,588 Hong Kong dollars ($720), said he was getting one "for the cash." He planned to immediately resell it to one of the numerous grey market retailers catering to mainland Chinese buyers. China is one of Apple's fastest growing markets but a release date for the iPhone 5 there has not yet been set.

Wong was required to give his local identity card number when he signed up for his iPhone on Apple's website. The requirement prevents purchases by tourists including mainland Chinese, who have a reputation for scooping up high-end goods on trips to Hong Kong because there's no sales tax and because of the strength of China's currency. Even so, the mainlanders will probably buy it from the resellers "at a higher price ? a way higher price," said Wong, who hoped to make a profit of HK$1,000 ($129).

A similar money-making strategy was being pursued in London, where many in the crowds ? largely from the city's extensive Asian community ? planned to either send the phones to family and friends back home as gifts or sell them in countries where they are much more expensive.

"It makes a really nice gift to family back home," said Muhammad Alum, 30, a minicab driver from Bangladesh. "It will be two or three weeks before there is a SIM card there that can work it, but it's coming soon."

Others who had waited overnight said the iPhones cost roughly twice as much in India as in Britain, making them very welcome as gifts.

Tokyo's glitzy downtown Ginza district not only had a long line in front of the Apple store, but another across the main intersection at Softbank, the first carrier in Japan to offer iPhones.

Hidetoshi Nakamura, a 25-year-old auto engineer, said he's an Apple fan because it's an innovator.

"I love Apple," he said, standing near the end of a two-block-long line, reading a book and listening to music on his iPod.

"It's only the iPhone for me."

Richest 400 Americans' net worth hits $1.7 trillion: Forbes

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The net worth of the richest Americans grew by 13 percent in the past year to $1.7 trillion, Forbes magazine said on Wednesday, and a familiar cast of characters once again populated the top of the magazine's annual list of the U.S. uber-elite, including Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison and the Koch brothers.

The average net worth of the 400 wealthiest Americans rose to a record $4.2 billion, the magazine said.

Collectively, this group's net worth is the equivalent of one-eighth of the entire U.S. economy, which stood at $13.56 trillion in real terms according to the latest government data. But the 13 percent growth in the wealth of the richest Americans far outpaced that of the economy overall, helping widen the chasm between rich and poor.

Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft Corp, topped the list for the 19th year in a row with $66 billion, up $7 billion from a year earlier.

Warren Buffett, chairman and chief executive of insurance conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc, stood second with $46 billion, followed by Larry Ellison, head of software maker Oracle Corp, with $41 billion; and the Koch brothers, Charles and David, who run the energy and chemicals conglomerate that bears their name, Koch Industries, were tied for fourth with $31 billion, Forbes said.

The ranks of the top five were unchanged from a year earlier.

Two notable names dropped from the top 10, however. Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, also active in conservative political causes, fell to the 12 spot from No. 8 last year, and financier George Soros dropped five spots to No. 12 from the No. 7 position one year ago.

The disappointing stock market debut of Facebook Inc also took a toll on the fortune of its founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. His net worth fell by nearly half to $9.4 billion, and he slid to the No. 36 slot from No. 14 a year ago, Forbes said.

(This story corrected size of U.S. economy to $13.56 trillion, not $13.56 billion, in paragraph 3)
