Omarosa: Morgan was 'so nasty' on 'Apprentice'

NBC

Omarosa on "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice."

By Anna Chan, TODAY

Get ready for drama in the first ever ?All-Star Celebrity Apprentice.? And unsurprisingly to fans of the competition, it sounds like a lot of the excitement will revolve around Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth.

?I fight with everybody,? she told reporters during the TV Critics winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., on Sunday. More specifically, ?Lil Jon had to break up all the fights between me and crazy a-- LaToya Jackson,? she stated. (Jackson did not attend the event.)

Old feuds will be reignited as well.

?Omarosa and Piers Morgan, they don?t like each other. Still,? said Lil Jon, who finished fourth?in ?Celebrity Apprentice 4.?

?(Morgan) said he came back this season solely to torture me, and that?s what he did, episode after episode,? said Omarosa, who finished in eighth?place in season one of ?The Apprentice,? and first faced off against Morgan in season seven, the first celebrity edition. ?Piers is a mean, nasty person. He was so nasty. I'm not exaggerating.?

Returning competitor Stephen Baldwin backed her to an extent. ?It goes without saying, Piers is Piers,? he said. ?He?s kind of good at getting in there and annoying people and causing a little bit of controversy.?

Morgan, who was not present at Sunday?s panel, isn?t returning to try to win the $250,000 grand prize for a charity of his choice, but instead, as the winner of the first ?Celebrity Apprentice,? he?s back to advise boss Donald Trump.

Baldwin, who finished in fifth place in his season, said one of the ?coolest? things about this all-star cast was that everyone had played before. But that didn?t make things exactly peachy. ?For me there was a level of terror involved because the only person that I really liked during this process was (country star) Trace (Adkins),? he said. ?It is the psychology of it. The only people I trusted was ? no one.?

For Omarosa, that ?no one? included Baldwin himself. ?He came in on day one, his mind was turning,? she said of her fellow competitor. ?You know what his approach was? Stephen Baldwin will stab you in the front as opposed to the back! You watch!?

Adkins, who was the runner-up in the first ?Celebrity Apprentice,? isn?t a fan of all the drama. ?(Participating in the show) puts me in a position where I?m forced to tolerate individuals I wouldn?t normally tolerate. I don?t live my life like that,? he said. ?I don?t like to spend time around people I abhor.?

But he also added that it wasn?t quite like that this second time around. ?This (show) at least has a shred of nobility because of the charitable aspect. That?s the only reason I even consider doing stuff like this,? he said.

Executive producer Page Feldman said the show raised about $3 million dollars.

?About $30 went to charity,? joked Penn Jillette.

?All-Star Celebrity Apprentice? premieres March 3 at 9 p.m. on NBC. Other contestants include Gary Busy, Lisa Rinna, Marilu Henner, Brett Michaels, Dee Snider, Claudia Jordan and Brande Roderick.

Pharmacists Making Decisions on Treating Pets

Veterinarians write prescriptions for pet meds with a purpose, it's no accident that a specific drug and or dosage is chosen.?Would you change a prescription your doctor gives you to another drug or change a dosage to save a few bucks, or because you read somewhere on the internet that you should do it? Your pharmacist, by law, can't simply say, "I have another drug idea," at least not without a doctor's permission. However, it seems, various suppliers on line and in stores are making decisions they're not supposed to make regarding our pets, as?reported by Veterinary Practice News, and others.

There's been?anecdotal?evidence for som time. Now, more than one-third of Oregon veterinarians surveyed reported cases in which retail or online pharmacists changed the prescribed dose of a medication for an animal patient or substituted a different product without the doctor?s authorization, according to the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association. Some veterinarians even described cases in which an animal died or was euthanized.

The survey documented instances in which pharmacists did not follow the doctor?s orders, including changing a prescribed insulin product to a less expensive insulin, substituting a drug with one not indicated for the species, and filling a prescription at 10 times the prescribed dose or at subtherapeutic levels.

Examples included:

  • ?A veterinarian diagnosed an older dog with epilepsy and prescribed 15 mg of phenobarbital twice daily. When the client arrived at the pharmacy to pick up the prescription, the pharmacist (reportedly) told her that the dosage was too high and that she should reduce it in half. With the subtherapeutic treatment, the dog continued to suffer from seizures, until several weeks later when the veterinarian discovered the problem upon a recheck. The dog was euthanized.?
  • "A veterinarian prescribed itraconazole (Sporanox) to treat ringworm in a cat. However, the retail pharmacy did not carry Sporanox but dispensed a compounded product that is unreliable and poorly absorbed in cats. The client elected to continue using the compounded product but experienced a treatment failure.?

The problem of pharmacists making unauthorized changes or otherwise misunderstanding veterinary prescriptions will only worsen, owing to a confluence of events:

-Independent pharmacies have given way to pharmacies owned by national chains, which, according to the?National Association of Chain Drug Stores, now fill more than 72 percent of prescriptions in the United States each year. A common perception is that pharmacists who work for chains doing high-volume dispensing are less likely to develop the long-time personal relationships with patients and doctors once common with pharmacists working under independent ownership.

-Chain pharmacies, including Costco, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Target and Kroger have aggressively entered the veterinary pharmaceutical market. But pharmacy education has not kept up. Knowledge of veterinary pharmacology is not required to become a pharmacist, and while many of the drugs are identical as used for people. Dogs, cats, birds, lizards, and other pets are decidedly not people.

-Legislation pending before Congress would promote the shift of veterinary prescriptions out of clinics and into ?human? pharmacies. The?Fairness to Pet Owners Act, or?H.R. 1406, requires veterinarians to provide pet owners with prescriptions whether requested or not, along with a written notice that they may fill the prescription elsewhere, not making the bill (despite the name) really fair to pets or pet owners (though most pet owners are unaware of the potential new law).

Loan Basic: What Is A Personal Loan? | Dulu Lain Sekarang Lain

x

Most of you probably know what a loan is. However, there are many types of loan that you can choose and before you go to any banks or any financial institution, it is best to know what type of loan suits your need. If you are thinking of going on a vacation with your loved ones but short of fund, you probably need to apply for a personal loan. There are many banks and other financial institutions that offer this kind of services.? However, before we get into that, let?s ask that question again: What Is a Personal Loan? Where can you apply for it?

What Is A Personal Loan?

In simple English, we can say that a personal loan is money you borrow from a lender for your own private use. ?Yes, personal loan is for private use and it can be for anything that you want. In many cases, you don?t even have to explain to your lender what you are going to do with the money. You can use the loan for a variety of needs including a vacation, home repairs or remodeling, vehicle repairs, medical expenses, legal bills, education and even debt consolidation. Anything that suit your need! Just apply for it and hope that your personal loan will be approved.

A personal loan can also be defined as a short-term loan and it may be the answer to your short-term cash needs. This is because a personal loan normally has a repayment period that is shorter than other types of loan such as housing loan or a mortgage. Whereas mortgage requires a time-span of 25, 35 or even 40 years, a personal loan usually goes for about one to five years in repayment period. The period may be longer these days as bank are more prepared to give bigger amount of personal loan to their clients. For example, KUWAIT FINANCE HOUSE (KFH)?s Personal Finance-I loan is for an amount up to RM200,000 with repayment period up to 20 years. See screenshot below:

KFH Personal Loan

Where Can You Apply For A Personal Loan?

Well, there are many places that you can go to apply for personal loan. The people or institutions that give you the loan is called the lender. They can be a bank, investment broker, or private lending company (money lender). It is not advisable to borrow from unlicensed money lender though (better known as ?Ah Long?) as not only is the interest fee high but your life can be in jeopardy if you fail to settle the loan on time.

In practice, many people will go to the banks or the lender?s office to apply for a loan. However, with the advancement of technology, application can now be made via internet at the comfort of your home. You still however need to go to their office for certain verification whenever necessary.

apply loan online

How Much Personal Loan Can You Apply For?

This quite a subjective question actually. How much you can get depend very much on your financial standing, your overall credit rating and where you apply for your personal loan. Banks normally will offer you higher amount of loan but you are subject to their strict requirements. A thorough check via CTOS Sdn Bhd (Click HERE for self-check) and CCRIS (Central Credit Reference Information System) sometimes are made by the banks to ensure that their interests are fully protected and to be fully satisfied that you are capable of paying back the loan. They don?t want to suffer losses, do they? :D

They might also impose certain requirements before approving the loan. See example below:

Bank Rakyat Personal LoanMaybank Personal Loan

Personal Loan And Line Of Credit

A personal loan can sometimes be confused with a line of credit. The key difference between the two is that a personal loan is a lump sum amount of money issued to you by the lender. With a personal loan, you will have to pay an interest rate on your principal (the initial amount you borrow). The interest is paid over a period of time. This is based on the agreement between you and the lender. This interest rate can either be fixed or variable.

A line of credit is similar, but you have access to funds up to your credit line that you can access all at once or just what you need, when you need it. In other words, a line of credit is a type of loan that does not come with a fixed amount. Line of credit can be seen, for example, in current account when you issue a cheque by borrowing via the line of credit given to you by the bank. The lenders do not know when you are actually borrowing the money. Most of them would charge you based on the interest rate at the time of your borrowings i.e when you issue the cheque with an amount bigger than what you have in the account but within your line of credit.

Secured And Unsecured Personal Loan

In general personal loans can be either secured or unsecured. What is secured loan? Secured loans mean you will offer the lender some type of collateral that they can claim in the event you don?t repay the loan. This can be land, vehicle, gold or other asset you own. On the other hand, unsecured personal loans mean there is no collateral. The interest rates for unsecured loans are higher because there is a greater risk of non-payment.

In Malaysia a personal loan is usually unsecured. Not long ago, banks and other financial institutions in Malaysia will ask for collateral or guarantor for personal loans. This requirement seems to be relaxed these days. Many banks are more willing to give personal loans without any collateral or guarantor.

No collateral personal loan

It is important to note however, although you?re not providing any security, you?re still obligated to make your regular repayment on time. Missing a payment may attract penalties and fees, and even negatively impact your credit score. The banks or your lenders may even take legal action against you. This includes applying for summons and filing for bankruptcy whenever possible.

Terms Of Personal Loan

It is imperative for lenders and borrowers to seal the loan contract by signing an agreement that outlines the terms and conditions. Included in the agreement are the amount borrowed, the interest rate and the total amount you need to repay each month. The agreement will also specify in detail your loan repayment terms ? your monthly payment along with the period of the loan, in years and months. As a rule of thumb, the longer the repayment period, the higher the total amount repayable will be.

As been stated earlier, personal loans are a short term loan. Therefore the period of a personal loan is generally one to five years, except in certain cases like KUWAIT FINANCE HOUSE (KFH)?s Personal Finance-I loan mentioned above.

This blog would like to remind you that it is important that you understand the loan terms prior to accepting the funds. One of the things that you should keep in mind is while a longer loan term will result in lower payments, you will end up paying more for the loan over the life of it due to the amount of interest. Hence, it is recommended that you only borrow the amount you need for your specific purpose and pay it back as quickly as you can. Make sure the set monthly payment is something within your reach on a regular basis so you are not likely to default on the loan.

Common Use Of Personal Loan

Since the borrowers are free to do whatever he wishes to do with the loan money, then there?s no way for us to predict what is in the borrowers? mind when applying for the loan. They might want to do house renovation, going on vacation or even use the loan for wedding expenses. Nonetheless, the most common use of a personal loan these days is probably to consolidate other debts such as credit cards and hire-purchase. This is a great way to have one monthly payment and reduce your monthly expenses. It is quite a strategic way to handle your personal finance and reduce the headaches of handling too many accounts.

Conclusion

It is without a shadow of doubt that personal loans are a great way to access the money you need quickly. The application process is fast and simple. You can even do it online. You will generally need to verify employment, income and residence. The lender will pull a credit check. You could still qualify for a personal loan if you have bad credit or no established credit especially if you are a government servant or you are applying loan from a financial institution other than banks such licensed money lenders. However, you must be prepared to pay a higher interest rate and in some cases, you might need to have some type of collateral to offer.

As this blog stated earlier,? the most common use of a personal loan these days is probably to consolidate other debts which is a good way to handle your personal finance. Word of caution, however, this scenario only works if you are willing to set a budget and live within the boundaries of it. Too often, a person who gets a personal loan to consolidate their debt quickly racks up huge debts again. Then they not only have that debt to pay, but also have another personal loan payment to meet each month as well. When this thing happen, it is advisable for you to enrol in a debt management course, especially if you feel you may be at risk to continue the cycle of accumulating more debt. Do visit Bank Negara?s Credit Counselling and Debt Management (CCDM) Agency that was established in 2006 to undertake credit counseling and loan restructuring for individuals. This institutional arrangement aims to assist consumers who are encountering difficulties in meeting their financial commitments.

India builds agricultural research center for Myanmar ~ Myanmar ...

India has started building an advanced center for agricultural research and education in Nay Pyi Taw to train Myanmar agriculturists, official media reported Thursday.

The stake was driven at the University of Agriculture in Yezin in the capital to start building the center on Wednesday, said the New Light of Myanmar.

India would provide technical assistance including laboratory equipment and Indian experts would train post-graduate students of Myanmar along with the establishment.

At present, nearly 200 post-graduate students are studying at the Yezin University of Agriculture.

To help promote the development of agriculture, India has extended an aid of 10 million U.S. dollars' farming equipment to Myanmar.

The agricultural equipment, presented in March 2012 by Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathaito, included 300 tractors of 40 horse power, 150 threshers of 110 hp, 228 cultivators of 13.5 hp and 431 ploughs.

Meanwhile, India's contracted investment in Myanmar amounted to 273.5 million U.S. dollars as of July 2012 since the previous military government opened to foreign investment in late 1988, ranking the 13th in Myanmar's foreign investors line-up.

Myanmar and India share a border of over 1,600 kilometers.

KL Food Trip: Fierce Curry House | eat. drink. cook. travel.

DC wanted to indulge me on my birthday and took me to KL not just to see Noid and Cheese, but also to eat. We got rituals like going on pilgrimage to Klang out of the way quickly, and on the day of my birthday, we found ourselves at Fierce Curry House. I?d first heard of Fierce Curry House on Facebook when it ran its tight T-shirt promotion: the first few men who showed up in tight V-neck shirts and carrying a man bag would get free biryani. What a great stunt that even I heard of it down south in Singapore. When a friend posted a picture of the lobster biryani, we were sold. That?s how we found ourselves off the main Bangsar drag in front of a slightly shabby stretch of shophouses. It looks like a typical non-airconned place from the outside, with a large steamer stack full of biryanis and a large thosai/roti canai griddle in the front. Venture inside, however, and there?s a fairly spacious airconditioned area, complete with a crazy number of exhaust fans on the walls.

IMG_6563

We weren?t here to ogle the walls, but the large steamer full of biryani that we?d pre-ordered. They set it over solid fuel camp stoves to keep it warm?

IMG_6564

? and sealed the biryani pot with dough to keep the moisture and flavour in. We were so excited we couldn?t wait for the latecomers and asked them to go ahead with the unveiling. It was such a spectacle that other tables started taking pictures of our biryani too!

IMG_6567

At first, we wondered where the lobster, was?

IMG_6568

? and pretty much sighed with relief when each half emerged after a spot of digging with the tongs.

IMG_6570

One of the sweet servers gamely held up the whole thing for a nice photo op before whisking it to the kitchen. We almost yelled after her ?where are you going with my lobster?!? before realising that they needed to chop it up for us first.

IMG_6571

In the mean time, we contented ourselves with taking pictures of the fragrant rice and accompanying gravies and raitas.

IMG_6572

Then the lobster made its comeback and we happily dug in.

IMG_6574

The verdict? The lobster itself was a tad overrated. While of a decent size, there isn?t a great deal of meat in one lobster to go with the easily six servings of rice in the pot. The meat itself was rather mushy, showing that it?s most likely frozen lobster. But the rice itself was a revelation. It was proper basmati rice that was beautifully fluffy and infused with the scent of cardamom and most strongly of lobster. Cooking it dum style sealed in all the goodness and allowed the lobster flavour to permeate. It was just as well that the lobster meat wasn?t that great. Still, for RM240, it?s expensive even by Singapore standards.

Other dishes included the highly rated deep-fried bitter gourd. It was very nicely crisp and intensely bitter ? they made it with the proper kind of bitter gourd, the deep green and prettily frilled baby ones.

IMG_6575

?

We heard good things about the lamb dishes and ordered a lamb masala to complement the lobster. It was wonderfully tender and with nicely melded spices ? excellent with the biryani rice or a thosai on the side.

IMG_6577

?

Fierce Curry House is a nice place to check out for the spectacle of a proper biryani. They use decent quality ingredients (especially if you consider frozen lobster decent quality), but is of course pricier because you?re paying for the brand, the Bangsar location and the aircon room. I?d go again because exchange rate is much in my favour!

Al Jazeera buys Gore's Current TV, terms undisclosed

LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Al Jazeera said on Wednesday it will buy Current TV, the struggling cable channel founded by Al Gore and partners, in a move that will boost the Qatar-based broadcaster's footprint in the United States.

Terms were undisclosed, but analysts estimated the deal could be worth as much as $500 million.

Al Jazeera said it would start a new U.S.-based news channel with the acquisition, which will make it available in more than 40 million U.S. households, up from 4.7 million prior to the deal.

The deal brings Al Jazeera, which operates under the patronage of the emir of Qatar and his family, into closer competition with American news channels like CNN, MSNBC and Fox.

But the award-winning channel that is seen in more than 260 million homes in 130 countries faces hurdles with U.S. distributors and viewers, television industry analysts said.

Current, a liberal channel which has battled low viewership, had been distributed in about 60 million of the 100 million homes in the United States with cable or satellite service.

One of its distributors, Time Warner Cable, which accounted for about 12 million of those homes, announced late Wednesday it was terminating its carriage deal.

"Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service. We are removing the service as quickly as possible," Time Warner Cable said in a statement.

Reuters reported in April Time Warner Cable was considering dropping Current if it did not reach certain ratings thresholds.

A spokesperson would not elaborate. Current is also distributed by Comcast Corp and DirecTV, with 22.4 million and 19.8 million subscribers, respectively.

Comcast or DirecTV were either unavailable or declined comment. Dish Network Corp also declined comment.

Both Comcast and DirecTV also hold equity stakes of more than 5 percent in Current, according to public filings.

Current said Gore, its chairman, and co-founder Joel Hyatt, the chief executive officer, will remain on the advisory board.

PARANOIA ABOUT AL JAZEERA

Analysts said Al Jazeera would have to overcome a significant image problem in the United States, where many viewers remember its stridently anti-war reporting of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Al Jazeera has deeper pockets. The downside is the politics. People in America associate Al Jazeera with the Muslim world or the Arab world or the Islam world and they have problems with that," said Jimmy Schaeffler, pay TV consultant at The Carmel Group.

"They have psychological, political and emotional concerns and that will work against them."

"There's a fair amount of paranoia when it comes to Al Jazeera," said Robert Thompson, professor of TV and popular culture at Syracuse University.

Al Jazeera has only been shown in a handful of cities. It said its new U.S.-based news channel would be separate from Al Jazeera English, and would provide both domestic and international news for American audiences.

The new channel would air in 2013 and would be headquartered in New York City. In addition to existing bureaus in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago, Al Jazeera would open more bureaus and would double its U.S.-based staff to more than 300 employees.

Current was co-founded in 2005 but never caught on. It shifted to a more liberal format from 2011, but ratings continued to disappoint, said Brad Adgate, senior vice president of research at Horizon Media, who pegged its average daily audience under 50,000 viewers and the value of a deal at $400 million to $500 million.

In late October, Current confirmed it was considering selling itself and had hired JP Morgan and the Raine Group to assess options.

Thompson said the deal came at a challenging time for the cable industry.

"Launching a cable network in the U.S. in the second decade of the 21st century is not an easy thing to do. Even Oprah Winfrey has struggled in significant ways," he said.

Disputes between pay TV distributors and cable networks have risen lately. Time Warner Cable also dropped arts-focused cable channel Ovation over its low ratings and the high costs of carrying the network.

Understanding the Medical Device Tax | HealthWorks Collective

med device TIGIAn Introduction to the Medical Excise Tax

Passed as part of the recent overhaul to the American healthcare industry popularly known as "Obamacare", the Medical Excise Tax is a 2.3% tax on the sales price of eligible medical devices. The tax is distinct in that it is not a tax on company profits, but on the initial sales price of the devices. This considerably magnifies the actual impact of the tax because it is calculated on the top line and so has greater impact on the bottom line.

Why People Care

While 2.3% does not sound like a significant amount of money, many medical devices have price tags that run in the tens of thousands of dollars or more. Even a small percent lost can result in the loss of an employee's annual salary due to the small number of sales made. Opinions are currently divided on the ultimate effect this will have on the number of workers the medical device industry employs, but the dispute is primarily over the size of the losses, not whether or not they will occur. Current estimates vary between 14,000 and 47,100 jobs lost. At minimum estimates, this can be expected to result in over twenty-nine million work-hours lost annually as a result of the tax, weakening each company's ability to research, innovate, and otherwise work to be successful as a company.

For these and other reasons, most medical companies are sharply opposed to the overall tax and are working to repeal it.

Affected Devices and Special Circumstances

Certain medical devices are exempt from the medical excise tax, including corrective lenses and hearing aids. Other devices that are typically sold as retail products to the general public may also qualify for an exemption, though it is recommended that a company thoroughly study the regulations to determine exactly which products qualify.

Beyond this, certain sales are permitted to be tax-free; these are focused on selling devices to another company for further manufacturing work or for export outside of the country; the tax can be waived even if the customer is not the one manufacturing or exporting as long as the device is sold with the intent of either circumstance coming about.

When the Tax Applies

The medical excise tax is applicable to all sales of non-exempt medical devices made on or after January 1, 2013. The IRS has released finalized regulations as of December 5, 2012 on the subject of medical devices and how companies should go about reporting sales and paying the excise tax once it begins. Notice 2012-77, published by the IRS and the United States Treasury Department, is intended to provide further guidance and information as necessary to all companies affected by the tax.

The device tax is to be reported using Form 720, which current regulations require filing quarterly. The first form for which the medical excise tax applies will be due April 30, 2013, with the regular pattern being established as the last day of the month after the end of the sales period being the deadline for Form 720 to be filed.

For Additional Information

Further information on the medical excise tax, including definitions of all terms applicable to the tax and an expanded explanation of which devices are exempt or otherwise not taxable, is available on the official website of the IRS.

Paltrow and kids groove onstage with Jay-Z

By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

It started off as a well-publicized event in and of itself: Coldplay and Jay-Z co-headlining a show on New Year's Eve at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Ringing in 2013 with two great onstage acts? What could be better?

How about Gwyneth Paltrow making an appearance onstage, dancing to "Run This Town" in this now-viral video?

Paltrow (who's married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin) is visible on the stage along with their kids Apple and Moses. Paltrow engages in what some are calling "champagne sway-dancing," or "pony-tail whipping," while trying to entice the little ones?to groove along with her.

It's been fodder for a good bit of mockery, but in our opinion, the Goop-goddess is rightly taking advantage of one of the perks of being one degree of separation from music's most-inner circle.
